std::fs::canonicalize with the Windows verbatim prefix taken back
off (simplify_verbatim) — the spelling every path comparison,
display and %r in this crate speaks.
EVERY canonicalization in the tree (its tests included) goes through here: the prefix has to be present on all sides of a comparison or on none, and “none” is what Python produces, so “none” it is.
